Weather Generator
Monika Hauck

Weather Generator captures and translates weather meter data into a real-time audio soundscape, complimented by a visual display of a ‘Daylight Monitor’. Using inputs from wind speed, wind direction, light and precipitation sensors a composition is performed by changing weather conditions. This installation poses the question - What would nature communicate if it could speak another language, one that we as humans could relate to and understand. What would we hear? What would we listen to? We are accustomed to checking the weather and we are also used to listening to human-produced music - perhaps translating natural inputs into formats that we as humans relate to emotionally will forge a more direct connection with our natural surroundings.

The Weather Generator is an experimental prototype for a larger body of work related to using natural inputs as vectors for immersive experiences.
